Description

This is a valuable handbook by Drs Graham Craig and Keith Powell based on their ground-breaking work using silver fluoride-based techniques on a group of highly anxious children in an isolated Australian community. The children initially refused standard dental treatment and the operators were being bitten, kicked and resisted at every turn. Because general anaesthetic facilities were not available locally and it was not feasible to premedicate children in a school environment, an alternative approach was needed. The atraumatic techniques described in the handbook were introduced and after 3 atraumatic visits over a space of 18 months the children became entirely co-operative. Literally “tigers” had been turned into “lambs”.

This handbook describes in practical detail the procedures used. They have all been thoroughly field tested.
